Hartwig Kremer appointed to lead UNITAC Hamburg

Mr. Hartwig Kremer has been appointed as the new UNITAC Program Manager. In his new role, Mr. Kremer will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of UNITAC, including providing technical and coordination support to enhance quality and synergy of the partnership. Before joining UNITAC, Mr. Kremer coordinated UNEP’s Global Environment Monitoring Systems, Scientific Assessments and data, SDG and partnership-focused activities, with a lens on freshwater, the ocean and air quality. Ms. Katja Schaefer, UNITAC Hamburg Interim Manager and Inter-Regional Advisor at UN-Habitat said:

Mr. Kremer brings a wide range of experiences to UNITAC Hamburg, combining managerial leadership with a strong interest in urban resilience, environmental challenges, climate adaptation and mitigation within the context of a rapidly urbanizing and digitizing world. His vast experience in establishing and maintaining focused teams within multi-partnership collaborations will assist positioning UNITAC Hamburg within an urban innovation sphere.

Hartwig Kremer is a German national and holds a Ph.D in Marine Sciences with focus on zoology and pollution, and a second degree as senior governmental advisor of fisheries economy. Before working at UNEP, he was CEO in Earth System Sciences coordinating over 400 projects addressing nature–human interaction along the inland water to coast continuum and coastal urban resilience and risks (LOICZ, today Future Earth Coast). He directed ODA global capacity building on food security and coastal and water resources management. In the Climate Technology Centre and Network, CTCN, of UNFCCC he was senior advisor on collaborative research, development and demonstration in climate mitigation and adaptation technologies. His objective is to foster people centered data to impact value chains across all actors of society.
