UNITAC is looking for a Data Scientist (GIS) for the project "Just transitions in vulnerable places - Towards Inclusive, Smart, and Resilient Urban Recovery" in Namibia.

Are you a Data Scientist with experience in Geospatial analytics using tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, etc? Join our multi-disciplinary team of data scientists, developers, urban planners, and sociologists working with local authorities and stakeholders in Namibia. Job Description:
- Manipulate high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources to visualize and identify patterns, anomalies, relationships, and trends.
- Visualization: Ability to design interactive data interfaces for communicating stories with data and unveiling insights within complex datasets.
- Possesses a strong ability and knowledge of database principles, data profiling, statistics and data modelling and can apply this knowledge in new or complex situations.
- Mapping, spatial analysis, data analytics and visualization.
- Data extraction, web scraping and sourcing of the open-source GIS datasets to complement existing datasets.

About the project: The BMZ-funded UNITAC project » Just transitions in vulnerable places – Digital solutions for more climate resilient informal areas in Namibia « aims to develop digital and urban data platforms and engage with and support national, sub-national and local government institutions to improve enhanced evidence-based decision making in Namibia. It builds on and supports the work of various existing urban initiatives in Namibia, aiming to improve the information base for effectively enhancing climate resilience of informal settlements through mapping, data collection, data management, data governance and provision of climate smart basic infrastructure in informal settlements.
